When families need help putting breakfast or lunch on the table, finding that help should be simple.
A new law signed in June makes it easier for New Jersey parents and caregivers to find information about free and reduced-price school meals. Participating public schools are now required to prominently post a link to the school meals application on their websites, along with an informational video to help families understand the application process.
The goal is simple: make information easier to find, remove unnecessary barriers, and connect more children with nutritious meals at school.
What Families Should Know
The school meals application helps determine whether a student qualifies for free or reduced-price meals through federal and State programs. Families who need to complete an application can look for the link prominently displayed on their public school’s website.
Helping Spread the Word
The New Jersey Office of the Food Security Advocate is also providing informational videos to help families learn about the application and available meal assistance.
This effort was established through A3882/S3426, signed into law in June 2026.
